Dental anxiety

Many Americans have some type of dental anxiety. It may be fear or it may be embarrassment, and it affects more than 30% of Americans. A large percentage of those who do have this anxiety can attribute it directly to something traumatic they experienced at the dentist's office when they were a child.

It may have been caused by a dentist who didn't have novocain or nitrous oxide, or who was simply insensitive to the fears that many people, especially kids, have about dental appointments.

Regardless of where the fear starts, it can prevent someone from seeking dental care. Whether it's an emergency appointment to treat some type of pain or a regularly-scheduled visit to receive standard preventative dental work, unfulfilled visits to the dentist can result in a smile that you're not very proud of.
